Textile & Leather Bonding Challenges, The PES Hot Melt Adhesive Powder Solution
Production lines halt at solvent-based adhesives while waiting for cure times and adhering to stringent VOC ventilation mandates. That's why pes hot melt adhesive powder circumvents both problems. It's a Co-polyester thermoplastic that melts on demand at a pre-set temperature, bonds on contact, and then solidifies within seconds as it cools.
The benefit for both fabric-lining manufacturers and garment-and-footwear-makers-along with heat-transfer converters operating with DTF and screen printing technologies-is a trio of practical advantages to the production line:
Eliminate VOCs and save.
Zero ventilation requirements, no solvent disposal costs, no paperwork for VOC compliance because the Co-PES powder product line is 100% solids from the start.
Increase line speed.
Bond strength develops as the melt cool, allowing products to move to the next process step seconds after bonding-not minutes waiting on a cure oven.
Reduce waste.
Because it's applied hot, overspray that's missed on the target substrate when using scatter-coating and screen-printing applications can typically be reclaimed and re-used, unlike spent liquid adhesive run-off.1
Teng Yang offers its pes hot melt adhesive powder hot melt in three formulations for our customers: a range for garment and footwear factories who bond their fabric linings, an excellent option for heat-transfer and DTF producers, and a high-performance version designed for converters requiring specific melt temperatures to match existing heat press and laminating equipment. For processes that bond the material continuously, rather than via scatter-coated powder, our PES hot melt adhesive film employs the same chemistry in web form. The sections that follow provide detailed breakdowns by grade, chemical compatibility and typical applications.
Teng Yang PES Hot Melt Adhesive Powder, Grades & Fusing Window Reference
If you’ve experienced uneven bonding on a scatter-coating line, the cause rarely traces back to the adhesive chemistry itself, but instead to a poor match between the hot melt’s melting point and the specific mesh size used on the line. Choosing a competitor's melting point value without also evaluating the mesh cut creates a hidden risk in this case, as neither number alone is sufficient to predict good results.
Our Co-pes hot melt adhesive powder is designed to be processed within a wide range-documented Co-polyester hot melt melt-point ranges are broadly defined between approximately 60° and 165°C. Most commercial hot melts fall within several clusters, typically between approximately 85° and 95°C, 98° and 120°C, and 100° and 160°C depending on the application.2 The process of matching the melt point and the mesh cut as a single specification, rather than two separate line items, is part of how Teng Yang engineer the solution for you before any sample is even delivered.
PES Powder Fusing Window Reference, By Substrate Type
| Substrate / Application | Typical Melt Range | Glue-Line Temp | Dwell Time |
|---|---|---|---|
| DTF / heat-transfer film (low-temp grade) | 60–95°C | 115–130°C | 3–6 sec |
| Non-woven interlining | 90–110°C | 120–140°C | 5–8 sec |
| Woven textile / garment accessories | 100–120°C | 130–150°C | 6–10 sec |
| Leather lining (double-dot powder scatter) | 85–100°C | 120–140°C | 8–12 sec |
Note: these range window summaries were constructed using information available in published Co-PES hot melt technical data.2 Actual parameters (temperature, pressure, time) will vary between equipment and substrates, so always confirm with your own process.
Particle-size selection is addressed similarly. Public technical specifications generally suggest the useful sieving range for adhesive powders between about 80 and 500 micrometers. At below 80 micrometers the material scatters and can't be applied evenly, while above 500 micrometers it becomes too coarse and the bond becomes weaker. Teng Yang utilizes three working-sized bands:
- 80-200µm (fine) is our hot melt adhesive powder for screen printing and DTF scatter-coating, where an even, thin dot pattern gives the most consistent strong adhesion.
- 200–350µm (medium) covers general garment interlining and dot-coating lines.
- 350-500µm (coarse) fits leather lining and heavier fabric bonding, where a thicker glue-dot is preferred.
"Particle size is the variable customers underestimate most. Two powders with the identical melting point can behave completely differently on the same scatter-coating line if the mesh cut is off for that fabric weight, that's usually the first thing we check when a customer reports uneven bonding."
Senior Application Engineer, Teng Yang
Color is available as standard white powder and black, with custom color matching on request - Teng Yang's OEM formulation covers melting point, particle size, and color together as a single spec, not three separate line items.
Beyond melt point and mesh, buyers sourcing raw material for a new production line often ask about physical properties like hardness and behavior at high temperature. Publicly documented Co-PES grades are typically solid at room temperature with a Shore hardness in the rigid-to-semi-rigid range - soft enough to conform to a fabric surface once melted, hard enough not to feel tacky once cooled.2

PES/copolyester is one of five common hot melt powder chemistries (alongside TPU, polyamide/PA, EVA, and polyolefin). Each behaves differently on wash resistance, flexibility, and cost - the fastest way to narrow the choice is to answer five questions about your application.
5-Question Powder Grade Fit-Check
Leather and PVC lean toward polyester hot melt (PES) for its chemical resistance; stretch fabrics often do better with a tpu hot melt adhesive or polyamide hot melt adhesive powder for flexibility.
Older heat-press or fusing equipment capped below ~130C should specify a low-temp Co-PES or PA grade rather than a standard-temp powder.
Co-PES holds up well to both - this is one of its main advantages over EVA, which is more sensitive to solvent-based dry-cleaning agents.
Screen-printing and DTF scatter-coating want a fine mesh cut; dot-coating machines tolerate a coarser one.
White and black are standard across most chemistries; custom color matching narrows the supplier list faster than chemistry alone.
Here's how the five chemistries stack up on the properties buyers ask about most:
| Chemistry | Typical Melt Range | Wash Resistance | Flexibility | Relative Cost |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| PES / Copolyester | 60–165°C | High | Medium | Medium |
| TPU | 90–130°C | High | High | Higher |
| PA / polyamide | 75–130°C | Med–High | Medium | Medium |
| EVA | 70–100°C | Medium | High | Lower |
| Polyolefin | 90–140°C | Medium | Med–High | Lower |
Ranges reflect publicly documented industry chemistry profiles, not lab-tested comparative data specific to one supplier's formulations.2
If your answers point toward lower cost and higher flexibility instead, take a look at our EVA hot melt adhesive powder grade - the honest trade-off is that it give up some wash-resistance and dry cleaning resistance in exchange for a softer hand-feel and a lower price point. Copolyamide is the chemistry to ask about if your application needs UV stability or foam lamination rather than fabric lamination - outside Teng Yang's current PES/copolyester and EVA powder lines, but worth naming so you know what to ask other suppliers about.
Teng Yang’s main product line today is our hot melt adhesive powder product line. For the textile industry, converters who want a different application form need our hot melt pellets, our continuous nonwoven web adhesives, and also film versions of our Co-PES chemistry. Our powder version offer faster melt set and lower material waste. Pellets and our web product give up a little bit of the speed to improve the handling of our material for high volume lamination lines.

Copolyester hot melt adhesive chemistry is established, not experimental — the polymer basis is referenced in US Patent 4,732,964 and other adhesive powder formulation filings that go back several decades. That maturity is one of the reasons the underlying Co-PES chemistry continues to be a go-to option for heat transfer converters in the apparel and footwear markets.

100% solids, near-zero VOCOn formal certifications: as a new hot melt adhesive powder manufacturer, Teng Yang would rather tell you plainly what we have confirmed in place than put our name on badges we haven't earned yet. If you need certification paperwork (ISO, OEKO-TEX, REACH) for your own customer's audit, contact us directly and we'll give you a candid, accurate status on what's in place and what's still in progress.
Here's a little more info about this class of chemistry and why it's documented industry-wide: the major suppliers of copolyester and other branded copolyester adhesives, like Bostik, list the same resistance to chemicals on their technical sheets because Co-PES is a plastic and the formulation, with specific additives, has an equal or greater impact on its behavior as the base polymer.2 Our copolyester adhesive formulas are built on this same chemistry class, and the standard applies equally whether you're evaluating our powder or another supplier's Co-PES product.
It’s also important to note what's consistently found when sourcing this type of material from China-based manufacturers: it's not price alone, but responsiveness to inquiries, useful support during line setup, and flexibility on MOQ that determines the long-term success of a supplier relationship.7 That’s the approach we're building, and you won't have to rely solely on our word.

FAQ, PES Hot Melt Adhesive Powder
What is PES hot melt adhesive powder?
It's a copolyester (Co-PES) thermoplastic adhesive supplied as a fine powder for textile applications, hot melt adhesive powder for fabric and powder for textile bonding. It melts at a set temperature, bonds substrates like fabric, leather, and PVC on contact, and re-solidifies as it cools, no solvent, no separate curing step, and good washing resistance and washability across repeated laundering cycles.
How is PES hot melt adhesive powder applied?
Most lines use scatter-coating (dusting powder onto a substrate through a screen or double-dot pattern), then fuse it under a heat press or laminating roller at the grade's activation temperature, typically 115–150°C depending on substrate, per the fusing window reference above.
How do I choose between PES, TPU, PA, and EVA hot melt powder?
Run the 5-Question Fit-Check above. As a starting rule: PES and TPU handle repeated washing best; EVA is the most flexible and lowest-cost option; PA sits in the middle on most properties. Your equipment's temperature ceiling and substrate type narrow it further.
Is hot melt adhesive powder better than liquid or solvent-based adhesive?
For most textile and DTF applications, yes on handling: it's 100% solids with no VOC ventilation requirement, and overspray is usually reclaimable. Liquid adhesives can offer longer open time for some applications, so the right answer depend on your process, not a blanket rule either direction.
What's a realistic MOQ and lead time for a new supplier?
We won't post a number here that doesn't match your actual spec, particle size, melt point, and color customization all affect it. What we can say based on how sourcing commonly works with Chinese material manufacturers: MOQs are usually firmer on a first order and more flexible once a repeat-order relationship is established.7 Ask us directly for your specific case.
Does the cheapest hot melt powder supplier make sense?
Only caring about price is a mistake sourcing research keeps confirming, cheapest factory isn't always the best when quality, lead time, and communication all matter more to your production outcome. Chinese manufacturers have thin margins and are genuinely rigid on MOQ for a first order, but we'd rather earn your business on responsiveness and technical support than compete purely on lowest quote.7
How should copolyester hot melt adhesive powder be stored?
Keep it sealed, cool, and dry. Humidity exposure affects powder flow and fusing consistency more than most buyers expect, ask us for specific storage guidance when you request a sample.
Can Teng Yang match a specific particle size, melt point, or color?
Yes, OEM customization across all three is standard practice, not a special-order surcharge. Tell us your substrate, equipment temperature ceiling, and application method, and we'll recommend a starting spec for a sample run.
Will PES hot melt adhesive powder work with my existing heat-press or laminating equipment?
Almost always, since Co-PES's wide 60–165°C melting range covers most heat-press and laminating equipment already in service. The one exception is older equipment with a hard ceiling below about 100°C, which needs a specifically low-temp grade rather than a standard one, tell us your equipment's rated temperature range and we'll confirm fit before you order a sample.
What's the difference between PES hot melt adhesive powder and hot melt adhesive film?
Both use the same copolyester chemistry, the difference is application format. Powder is scatter-coated or screen-printed onto a substrate in a dot or dust pattern; film is a continuous pre-formed sheet laminated between two layers. Powder suits DTF, screen-printing, and dot-pattern lining; film suits full-surface lamination where a continuous bond line matters more than breathability.
